I’m concerned about the responses to Biden’s comments on the GOP post Trump.
Markos posted thoughts on Biden this morning that started with…
“I just can’t...”
He believes that Joe Biden is delusional for his statements complaining that the GOP will work with Democrats more, once Trump is gone.
I don’t see this as delusional at all. It’s simply a strategy.
Markos comments stemmed from Sam Stein’s tweet (and possibly earlier comments)
This has many Democrats with typing angrily on their keyboards and phones.
How dare he say that! Of course he is delusional!
Old Joe thinks the Senate is still the way it was! (BTW, the congenial old Senate was never that congenial, though it is remarkably worse under Mitch).
I’m not surprised that the comments section here, FB, Twitter etc. is reflecting that, but it’s disappointing nonetheless and even more so that Markos would be that shortsighted.
I enjoy his insights and often agree.
However, his response to this… I don’t get the shortsightedness.
Like it or not, this is politics and political campaigning.
And like it or not, part of Biden’s strategy, is a national, broader GE strategy.
That’s his strategy. You don’t have to like it.
But show me a candidate who would say — wish that the GOP doesn’t work with Democrats.
That’s not aspirational. That’s not leadership.
Yes, we know how likely it is that the GOP will work with Democrats, but that does not change the aspirational fact that many voters care about it.
This is a strategy. It’s a tactful move to reiterate a “unity” message.
This is not at the expense of also being strategic in office regarding GOP obstruction.
This and holding the GOP accountable are not mutually exclusive.
Does anyone really believe that Biden doesn’t know first hand what the GOP did while he was in the Senate and especially while he was VP?
This is no national downside to his remarks. I guess it’s a downside to primary voters who can’t recognize the bigger picture of a political campaign in the long run, but then again, most who fail to see this weren’t going to vote for the Joe Bidens of the world anyway.
I want to simply point out that everyone here think about what candidates do through the lens of political strategy in the long game, not the literal, isolated context of a comment.
