Yes the Tigers are no good this year.
Yes they will not be good again for a few more years.
Yes Baseball can be boring to watch.
But I am going to the game tomorrow.
It is hard to explain if you’re not disabled how exciting it is to actually be able to go out and do something fun and “normal”
When I go out to most things nowawadays I need to use a walker. When I go out and have to do a lot of walking I need to take a wheel chair…. tomorrow is one of those days.
It is not easy not being able to walk so far and getting out...so when you do it is an event to look forward to.
When I was a kid we used to go to Tiger stadium at least twice a year. Nothing beat the excitement of growing up...first with the likes of Gates Brown and the like, then the 84 championship team. I went to game 4 of the World Series and it was like magic… the smell.. the noise...the excitement.
Then for a few years when I moved to Chicago I got to to Wrigley field and cheer against the much-hated Cubs. I was lucky enough to see the Cubs loose in 4 games that I went to see them play… 3 against my beloved Astros and once against the LA Dodgers.
Then I got sick and thought that I’d never be able to go to a game again… shoot it was hard enough to go to a movie.
But thanks to discounted ticket prices and friends willing to put up with me, and handicapped seating at ballparks I can go again… not too often, it is a tiring experience, but every once a year or so it is something that reminds me of the olden days… that gets me out into the real world and to a place of excitement…..the good news is the Tigers are playing the Rangers (Another one of my 3 favorite teams) so if the Tigers win or lose, I win :)
