Although beef tongue by itself, as shown in the above picture is yummy in and of itself, it in no ways compares to a sandwich with tongue, coleslaw, Russian Dressing and Swiss Cheese.
Being Jewish I grew up going to Delis all the time. Plus I was used to tongue meat as my mother (Of Blessed memory) would make it every so often.
And yes, I know that the sandwich I described is not kosher (The whole cheese and meat thing, but every so often…. oy...)
Growing up in a city (Suburbs of Detroit) with a large Jewish population we have many delis in the area to chose from. I just was in Omaha recently and when I went into what they called a deli I was a sad panda.
Anyway, back to yummy tongue sandwiches...
Do not knock it if you’ve never tried it. It tastes like corned beef just better.
I often would die for a pastrami, or chopped liver, or corned beef sandwich.
So.. how about you? What is your favorite Deli sandwich?
