Since Trump’s claims of an economic victory are getting harder to prove, what has he got left to run on, going into the election season? Trump has gone so far as to suggest he shouldn’t be impeached because of this supposed strong economy, amongst other things, but recession warnings from Wall Street are becoming harder to ignore. One of my concerns for the next election had been the idea of the “moderate” voter who may not like Trump but holds their nose and votes for the Orange Moron anyway because business is good but now I’m wondering how much of a problem this really is.
It looks like he’ll have to either continue lying about the economy, as the stock market falls, or he’ll double-down on fear of immigrants, fear of progress, and so on.
Edit: I should also add, would playing on fear be enough? A strong economy appeals to almost everyone but how far can he get on hate and fear? Seems like that would only appeal to his base 30%. Oh, and the Dow is still tumbling...
