Well, I am deep into training for what will hopefully become a more stable, better paying job than that of tutor… substitute teacher. Eventually, maybe, fully licensed teacher. That requires more education and preparation— and tuition— than I have right now; so that’s a medium-to-long-term plan; so for “right now”, I’m going the sub route.
I am studying some training videos about the ins and outs of being a sub: classroom management, special-needs kids, etc. Yesterday I completed a video on cultural competence. It had some good, thorough things to say about implicit bias and how to fight it, and about respecting all different cultures.
Better not tell the QAnonsters: the diversity conspiracy extends to training our teachers. It’s EVERYWHERE!!!!1!!1!!!
So, I’m typing notes from the video, to save for later (because it’s not only going to help me with training, they’re good principles to always keep in mind).
And naturally, since the video is being narrated so fast, my fingers are just banging out words on the keyboard as fast as they can go. And when I came back to my, uh, handiwork, I found that I’d had an… interesting way of spelling words:
demogtaphiocd = demographics
approparatge = appropriate
communicationationn = communications
redcongixe = recognize
actuverlyh = actively
caklssroomn = classroom
stertotyhpes = stereotypes
amilires = families
revlenat = relevant
exerieces, ecpereicnes = experiences
eprsonn = personal
opiunionns, opuons = opinions
exlplkina = explain
bteweetn = between
difrernvce = difference
mytkualm = mutual
INCraded = increased
sfculturls = cultures
senetivie = sensitive
abi8ltiyn = ability
grageies = strategies
Of course, I went back and corrected these all. But… damn. My fingers sure can be misguided when they’re in a hurry.
Back in typewriter days, a good typist could do 120 words per minute. That speed doesn’t seem attainable on a computer keyboard. (That’s the reason my Mom always preferred typewriters to computers.) My average WPM is about 55, and I think I was trying to do 100 WPM here. You could say I attained that. Badly.
What have been some typos YOU have made while typing in haste?
