I wanted to post something different from the usual chaotic diaries of our current President embarrassing our nation on the world stage and being extraordinarily cruel to immigrants and people of color to celebrate that time of the year. Not the time where we’re dashing through the snow, decking those halls, and fa la la la’ing over some husky delivery driver in a red suit who drives a sled of aviating caribou. Not the time where we go to our true love or those we wish were our true love and give gifts of flowers, candy. and sometimes racy lingerie. Not the time where we celebrate our independence from the old British empire by going to parades, cookouts, and patriotic pyrotechnic displays. Nope, it’s that time of year to celebrate the working men and women who do the daily tasks of keeping our society running in tip top shape. Now the popular media loves to celebrate musically by playing Christmas songs up the wazoo, and they love to play romantic love songs over Valentines Day, and they love to proclaim their love of the USA on the 4th of July by playing patriotic songs. Yet they are conspicuously silent when it comes to Labor Day, as they probably don’t want to remind people about music related to work.
But I want to celebrate the working person. So I want some suggestions of your favorite tunes related to work, the working man and women, and just stuff about jobs in general. After all, even some of the biggest artists of our lifetime sung about the travails of the working person.
Bruce Springsteen may be known as the Boss, but he often sung about the working class guy doing the hard and dirty work outside.
But some people work in an office and have to deal with office politics.
Then when the day ends and you find yourself stuck in traffic with grime accumulating on your vehicle, you may need to make a side trip to get your car washed.
For some people, it’s the usual cycle of work, play, work, etc.
But some people are fortunate enough to be able to telecommute.
But sometimes you just want to give it all up.
But Labor Day isn’t just about blue collar people dreaming about becoming famous entertainers. Even successful stars have their challenging moments.
And some people struggle to hit the big time.
So what is your favorite work song or song about jobs and employment? And how do you plan to spend your Labor Day weekend? Please share.
