Not Easy
This will be a slightly different KTK for me in that I will schedule it rather than my usual practice of publishing while I’m actually on line. At age 80 our circle of friends is changing dramatically because of health challenges. We used to joke about our parents reading the obituaries every day but now we do it religiously, but tremulously. We see familiar names every week. And my circle embraces so many Kossacks; losses among that group are painful as well.
We were just informed that a dear friend who is exactly my age has been diagnosed with a serious liver situation, tumors. She will have surgery tomorrow. Her wife requested that we meet them this afternoon for lunch. Of course we’ll be there for whatever support we can give. Thus I’m unsure if I’ll be back by the usual KTK publishing time.
On a more upbeat note, I went ahead and purchased the new cue I desired. I went to the pool hall with the intention of trying some out (again) and making a studied, rational decision, but I knew I wanted it and I brought cash, knowing that all-cash had quite an advantage. Included was a screw-on cue extension for reaching long shots; adds 8 inches to my reach. This is cool, I’m the only one at the pool hall who has this.
(Rationalization follows:) When side-spin or english is applied during a shot, the cueball deflects from the desired path. One mentally adjusts for this…….usually. New technology has created a low-deflection cue, which I bought. The next challenge (tomorrow) will be to un-adjust my previous adjustment to process future side-spin shots. So far every player who has this cue (I’ve asked many) has told me they would never use anything else, so it all gives me hope. I will certainly report on my success (crosses fingers).
