Today, I wrote this letter to my two US senators from WI. One is D, one R.
I hope many of you choose to send the same letter to your Senators. Please feel free to copy/paste and or edit. No attribution necessary.
Dear Senator ________,
The House Managers have laid out their case against Donald John Trump meticulously supported by facts, testimony and documents substantiating their assertions.
Tomorrow, Mr. Trump’s Counsel will begin their presentation of the defense arguments.
As we have already seen when in opening statements, they stated that Republicans were not allowed into the investigatory testimony held by the House, Defense Counsel will not hesitate to introduce false and misleading information into the record of the impeachment trial, the deliberations of the Senate, and the minds of the American people.
When the tenor of exchanges between Managers and Counsel seemed against what is expected in the Senate, Senator Collins passed a note to Chief Justice Roberts prompting him to admonish both sides regarding the “World’s Greatest Deliberative Body”, and their conduct before it.
Therefore, I am urging you to follow Senator Collins’ example.
I implore you to request the Chief Justice, even before the presentations begin, to remind Counsel that under18 U.S. Code § 1001 lying before congress is a felony offense subject to imprisonment. An expectation of truthful information is more important given the solemn and grave conduct of an Impeachment Trial. This is not cable TV.
I further urge you that when any member of Defense Counsel asserts lies, false or misleading information, or debunked foreign disinformation, to pass a note to the Chief Justice urging him to admonish Counsel that Impeachment Trials may not include such false information or perjurous content.
The American people deserve the truth, because “Truth matters here”.
Thank you.
