Just after dropping out as a candidate, Julian Castro is on the campaign trail — for Elizabeth Warren. I think he’s doing the right thing. Not just for supporting Warren, but for making a choice among the remaining candidates and doing what he can to help that person. I thought that he brought a useful perspective to the race while he was in it, and I continue to think that now he’s endorsing.
The graphic above shows 14 former candidates in the Democratic presidential primary. I am sure that those people would not all agree on who’s the best remaining option. And I respect some of them more than others. But in every single case, I’d like to hear who they endorse, if they have the courage to do so. And I think that substantive, policy-platform-focused endorsements would help reduce the current harmful focus on minor polling ups and downs. I think that my favorite candidate, Elizabeth Warren, will do better the more the focus is on policy.
