Well, Fall is here. The pool is closed and the leaves are everywhere. Some plants are still blooming and the berries are ripening. I have some bulbs and tubers to plant. I tend to leave plants alone and cut them back in Spring. I like to leave the seeds for the birds.
I am so excited about these Doll’s Eyes. I have three plants. I’m looking forward to them bushing out in the next few years. I just love the white berries and the red stems. They glow in shade.
There is one anemone still blooming in the back garden. It’s such an elegant plant.
This Limelight Hydrangea is still beautiful. I think they are my favorite bush for year round interest.
The dahlias are still going strong in the front garden. I need to do a better job staking them next year. This is my first time growing dahlias so I’m still on a learning curve. I’m going to plant them in containers next year because they are susceptible to verticillium wilt which has infected the cottage garden.
I really like how this dahlia looks with the penstemon (the red-leaved plant to the right of it).
Here are a double anemone, aster, and late-blooming chives. And oak leaves acorns.
The winterberry hollies are finally bouncing back. Giving all of the acid-loving plants their Autumn feed is on my to do list.
Now on to the Stumpery.
I’m starting to develop some nice vignettes. Ferns, foamflower, lungwort, and epimedium.
All in all, I’m very pleased with how it’s coming along.
Here’s all of my wine in all it’s glory:
I just took a reading of the elderberry and it’s not quite finished fermenting. I’ll give it another week and check again. It’s so close. I think it may be getting a little cool in there and it’s slowing things down. What to do.
What’s going on in your gardens?
