No, I am not publicly or privately rooting for Donald Trump’s demise. It is not in my personal nature, but also would not be beneficial for the United States. However, I also hope that his symptoms, which are currently reported as mild, do not stay as such. Donald Trump needs to get sick. Very sick. Boris Johnson sick, Not Jair Bolsanaro sick. But also not Herman Cain sick. Here is why:
1. Trump gets Bolsanaro sick. He experiences mild to no symptoms, much like a common cold. He overcomes it quickly and is able to promote whatever snake oil drug he has taken in the past six months and his superior genes for the recovery. Also, this would reassure his base that this is a ‘nothing’ disease, that even if you contract wont effect you unless you are weak or feeble, unlike the great Donald Trump.
2. Trump gets Herman Cain sick. Trump suffers for a few weeks and dies. Half the country mourns and the other half feels sheepish at best. There is a rally around the flag effect for Mike Pence, and a ‘win one for the Gipper’ (Ironically, played by Saint Ronnie Reagan in the movie) effect at the polls. “Trump” wins re-election, and we have to deal with President Pence for the next 4-8 years.
3. Trump gets Boris Johnson sick. He spends the next 2-3 three weeks in bed or in the hospital, maybe even with a quick trip to ventilator town. He is unable to campaign, and spread his actual or metaphorical virus around the country. He emerges in late October, recovered, but looking weaker, older and frailer than ever before. This, coupled with Biden being able to campaign unchallenged throughout the month of October slowly moves the needle to a 1984 level election landslide. 6 or 7 Republican senators receive down-ticket blow back, and President Biden is sworn in on January 21st with a Democratic majority in the Senate and House, and just maybe, a vacant Supreme Court seat to fill.
So here is to Donald Trump’s recovery. Just not for awhile, and not until after it hurts.
