I'm not affiliated with any campaign but it is the eve of the NH primary so I write to encourage those of you still open to persuasion, to join me in supporting Elizabeth Warren.
First, let me be clear. If Senator Warren does not win the nomination, I will energetically support whoever does. As Bernie put it during the NH debate, "Everybody up here by the way is united; No matter who wins this damn thing, we're all going to stand together."
Amen brother.
There are three primary reasons why I support Senator Warren.
One. Warren has been, by far, the most forward leaning politician working to root out political corruption in Washington. As a former Hill staffer this issue resonates with me.
Do I think our corrupt political system is more important than the climate crisis? No. More important than affordable health care? Again, No.
What I think is we can't take on the fossil fuel industry or the pharmaceutical industry... and win, until we have a government that works for the American people, not for the special interest groups that own Congress.
Bonus. Draining the swamp resonates with voters across the political spectrum.
Two. I think we're way overdue to put a woman in the White House. What message does it send to girls that our highest office is reserved for men?
Three. I think Warren is the most electable candidate in the field for two reasons;
a) The recent example of the 2018 midterm in which women, particularly suburban women, were the most important demographic in the historic Democratic wave that flipped the House (and thank gawd for that).
So if you want women in key battleground states to vote blue again in 2020, it ain't the craziest idea in the world to nominate one.
b) I think Liz will take Trump apart one-on-one. Trump has issues with women that are smarter than he is...which is to say...with women. His comfort level among women he's not sexually assaulting is limited to Beauty Contestants, Playboy Bunnies, Porn Stars and Betsy DeVos.
You know he's got issues. The Harvard professor turned Senator With a Plan will run circles around him on the debate stage. He'll melt down like the Wicked [W]itch of the West. She'll reduce him to an orange pile of goo with a comb over.
And then, finally, we will be able to tell our daughters and granddaughters that they can truly accomplish anything.
