If the Democratic Party nominates a “progressive” it roughly says:
We understand the crisis in America and are looking for solutions.
If the Democratic Party nominates a “moderate” it roughly says:
America accidentally elected a would be dictator but that crisis will be over after our candidate wins.
Certainly we can all agree, that actual governance and policy results aside, the optics of the nomination matters and moderate and progressive candidates are not the same. We can continue a parade of party unity diaries that try to gloss over the decision between these two statements or we can try to talk like adults about the differences in view points.
For me the latter statement is simply not true. I can’t find any support for it in the increasing suicide rate, endless war, booming wealth inequality, climate changed, Republican Party long term attempt at oligarchy, ever decreasing opportunity for the uneducated country I live in. On top of which yesterday my wife was stopped from getting into her Tesla by a man with his mother who was saying something like, “You’re rich why don’t you help me.”
So I’ve had enough — if we can’t agree then at least stop telling me we are already in agreement.
