According to an article in HuffPost, the head of DHS has declared that residents of NY state will no longer be eligible for Global Entry, Nexus, and other ‘trusted traveler’ programs in retaliation for NY adopting a Green Light Law that makes it possible for undocumented immigrants to get a drivers license. The law also restricts the NY DMV from sharing license information with DHS. The move comes one day after Trump railed against Sanctuary City laws in his State of the Union address.
I applied for Global Entry renewal in August 2019 and the $100 fee was immediately accepted by DHS. Since then crickets.
Many people have complained about delays in the program and DHS has a notice up on the application site blaming the delay on the government shut down of way-back-when and has issued statements that delays were also caused by sending DHS office staff to the southern border to help with the wall or whatever. Now I’m wondering if the delays have actually had more to do with sanctuary city law retaliation than has been previously been acknowledged. I live in California so you can see why I worry.
