I live in New York’s Capital District, and traveled to Keene, NH Saturday to knock on doors for Bernie. Apparently so did a lot of other people. By the time I got to Bernie’s campaign office in Keene a little after 12, all doors had been knocked! They had no packet of houses to give me! Think about that. The Keene office had scheduled door knocking from 8-12; 12-4 and 4-8. But they got so many volunteers on the first shift that what was supposed to take 12 hours took only 4 or 5. Imagine how many volunteers had to show up that early to achieve that!! Now I expect that Keene might be a special case, it is right next door to southern Vermont and less than three hours from Albany, NY, but still, what a turnout! And weather/travelling conditions were much, much less than ideal. Temperatures were in the teens, and those who drove to Keene Friday night had to drive through some heavy snow. Those of us who traveled Saturday morning had icy, slippery roads to deal with.
So I took a couple of Bernie New Hampshire buttons as souvenirs and went back home. I could’ve gone to Hillsboro, only 30 minutes away, but they were running low on packets too. There was no guarantee they wouldn’t be out by the time I got there. You’d think I would’ve been frustrated doing all the driving and not getting to knock on doors. Nope. I smiled all the way home, proudly wearing my new button.
