Hello, writers. Many thanks to the doughty strawbale for hosting WO! last week with a diary about looking up at the night sky.
Well. Suddenly there’s plenty of time to write. And worry. And try to track down a source for what the supermarkets (who don’t have any) are delicately calling “bath tissue.”
I don’t know about you, but I find all I’m really doing is following the news instead. My state, New York, is the hardest-hit state at the moment and the governor is providing long, rambling, informative press conferences every morning and I’m glued to them. So starting tomorrow, I’m going to make a daily schedule for writing and try to stick to it.
It seems like a good time to haul out projects that we’ve set aside in the past as impractical. Or to begin new projects that just seem like they’d be fun.
What goals are you setting for yourself for the duration?
I’ve run across a couple of free resources for writers during this time. Do you know of any others?
The Highlights Foundation, which normally runs workshops in the Poconos Mountains for children’s writers, is running a free online seminar. More info here or on their twitter account.
Publishers’ Weekly has temporarily made its digital edition available without subscription.
I read an article saying that JSTOR, the database of academic journals, was free for the duration, although when I went to JSTOR it still asked me for an academic sign-in. Does anyone know anything about this? (Edit: The doughty mettle fatigue found this link for info about accessing JSTOR.)
Since the above doesn’t lend itself to a Tonight’s Challenge, try this:
Write a scene in which it is raining hard, and in which something has been lost. Try to engage at least 3 senses.
Write On! will be a regular Thursday feature (8 pm ET 5 pm PT) until it isn’t.
