A company called Kinsa Insights sells thermometers that upload your temperature to the cloud so you can keep track of it. They’ve been using this information to predict flu outbreaks, and have found they can predict how the entire flu season will go on a “hyper-local basis” by September 15.
As featured on Rachel Maddow last night, they’ve put up a map that tracks seasonal illness like the flu, at HealthWeather.us. The interesting tab is Atypical. It shows the places where illness is above the level expected at this point in the flu season. They think it predicts where Covid-19 is becoming a problem. They claim their map predicted the outbreak in NY about two weeks before it happened. (So, yeah, Florida’s going to be a mess.)
Also interesting is that over time, it shows the effect of social distancing. Social distancing works.
Anyway, check out their map. You can get more detailed information if you put in your county or zip code. (My county is down 5% — we’ve been on lockdown since St. Patrick’s Day.)
