Trump and oil mix quite well. I wrote yesterday morning (www.dailykos.com/...) of the corrupting compulsion to prop up the domestic oil industry by any means necessary, including military, and the fallacy of fossil energy independence. I’m not pleased to report that, as if on cue from a Daily Kos post read by my hound dog and nearly a dozen smart others, the explicit presidential projection of gunboat imperialism surfaced just this morning, via Twitter:
I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea.

FoxBusiness then not too subtly brings the faithful the good news:
Oil spikes as Trump threatens action against Iran
Trump orders U.S. Navy to fire on Iranian gunboats harassing American ships
Oil prices spiked Wednesday morning after President Trump threatened action against Iranian gunboats that have been harassing U.S. ships.
***
Trump's statement comes after 11 Iranian vessels last week operated dangerously close to U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf. Earlier on Wednesday, Iran said it launched its first military satellite into orbit.
Wednesday’s rebound amid rising geopolitical tensions comes after WTI crude oil for June delivery plunged 60 percent this week amid worries about demand destruction caused by COVID-19 and ballooning supplies due to the price war between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

There once were crude oil prices plummeting,
Kept flowing and there’s no uncoupling;
We’ll find us some Persians,
With red state aversions,
And send our sick navy for pummeling.
