There has been plenty written about Trump’s dangerous and crazy bleach idea. I personally think Dr. Birx was spot on — Trump saw something and he was talking through it out loud. Setting aside that some Trumpist will inject themselves with cleaners and kill or injure themselves (the saddest part), this what I can’t set aside:
- Trump displayed the science education of maybe a 1st or 2nd grader. If one of my kids had pondered that at that age, I would have said “that’s an interesting idea” and told them something about likely real treatments. If they had been 4th or 5th graders, I would have said “you know its not that simple” and done the same thing with more details. If they were older, I would have said “really, I’ll pretend you didn’t say that” but lets talk about it. We are months into a crisis, so why is the President still so uninformed about what the treatments might actually be and the process it takes to get there? Or even the basic strategies of testing?
- Trump expected to be patted on the head and told how smart he was. This was yet another the emperor has no clothes moment and it was so stunning that almost the whole world took note and commented on it. But Trump actually thought he was being a genius.
Trump’s combination of willful ignorance and arrogance is apparently boundless. I realize we can’t stop it, but it just made me sad that everything has been made worse and will continue to be worse than it has to because of Trump.
I also have to wonder if Fox and Trump fluffers are proud of themselves at this point.
