While the Squatter in the Oval Office might have aspirations to be an authoritarian dictator like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Putin, the Kim family, and many other murderous monsters from the past and present, his actions in relation to the ones he’s confronted in the last three and a half years, as well as, in addressing the challenges of the global COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS CoV-19 virus, bear a closer resemblance to the appeasement of Hitler and his ambitions. British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain has been notorious since he came back from his Munich meeting with Hitler, claiming he had achieved “peace in our time”, in 1938, after conceding all of the territory that Hitler had annexed in Eastern Europe to him in exchange for a paper promise to not do any more annexations. Hitler, of course, saw that as a bull would see a red flag, invaded Poland in 1939, and started World War II.
The Squatter’s passivity and inaction in the face of a global health emergency is, fundamentally, as deadly as the overt murder perpetrated by the others he’s praised and sought to emulate, in that he’s caused far more death and misery than would have happened if he were a real leader with the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens at heart. But he has done more bowing and scraping to Xi, Kim, and Putin than a scullery maid in a Victorian mansion, while accepting Xi’s word that the Chinese government’s initial mismanagement of the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan had kept it from becoming more widespread, and praising him for his handling of it.
His refusal to push Xi to allow American scientists to assist in the assessment of the problem there, as well as, his dismantling of the pandemic response task force, his downplaying of the severity and spread of the disease for fear of that news’ impact on the stock market exacerbated the problem, at the cost of thousands of American lives. Compounding it was the failure for three and a half years to address the apparent shortage of emergency equipment in the national stockpile, and the refusal to establish a national plan to address the gradual spread of the disease across the country, with the growing need for emergency equipment in hot spots. Followed by abdication of responsibility for leading the federal response to the problem, sending PPE needed by our citizens to foreign countries, and the snatch and grab he’s authorized for his feckless son-in-law’s “volunteers” from the private sector to set up distribution channels for equipment from overseas, while skimming profits from the funds authorized for the purchase of PPE by Congress, it all essentially amounts to a concession to the disease’s continued assault on the lives and health of our fellow Americans. He’s appeased the virus in its attacks, just as Chamberlain did Hitler in his.
His concern has shifted from saving lives to saving his own ass by minimizing reports of the number of deaths attributable to COVID-19. His insistence on “opening up” businesses to salvage the economy that his negligence and incompetence have wrecked is designed to boost his re-election chances. Whether or not the illness and death count spikes again as a result of that insistence, as predicted by virtually every knowledgeable scientist, is irrelevant to him, because he knows that he faces indictments and trials for years to come, if he’s bounced out of office by voters in November. On that point, with the number of lives claimed as I write this climbing past the 87,000 mark, he has proven that he is as evil as the murderous dictators he wants to emulate. If all goes well for we American targets of his malevolent indifference, the main difference between those who have been killed by direct order of his role models, and Americans who have died because of his direct action and his criminally negligent inaction in response to the COVID-19 pandemic will be in the number of dead.
