This will be short diary, as you can read more details here. Long story short, some police officers aren’t the only racists in Minneapolis. A group of young black entrepreneurs rented office space at a WeWork location. Included in their rent is the right to use the fitness center. Evidently Mr. Austin couldn’t believe that any black person would have the wherewithal to rent an office there, so he demanded that they prove their bona fides to him. They rightfully refused, as it was none of his business where they worked — they couldn’t have even been in the building, much less the fitness center, without a key card.
“As we were working out this man approached and immediately asked us who we were and if ‘WE BELONG’ in this building,” they wrote on the Instagram video posted to their company page. “Granted in order to enter the building you NEED a key card to enter EVERY part of the building which EACH of our team members individually have. We all pay rent here and this man demanded that we show him our key cards or he will call the cops on us.”
It’s not clear from the story if he actually called the cops, but it is noted that he had previously been active in opposing the renaming of Lake Calhoun (named afer notorious secessionist John C. Calhoun) to Lake Bde Maka Ska after the region’s Native American history.
