I’ve been keeping an eye on this Web site since Rachel Maddow featured it in March. It’s been really, really boring lately. Very little change day to day. They put up a notice saying that social distancing is working.
But yesterday, holy crap. It lit up like a Christmas tree, after no change at all for 10 days or so, and relatively little change before then. (I’ve been keeping screenshots.)
I’m not quite sure what this means. This is a really big change compared to what it’s shown since the lockdowns started. The map is supposed to show where people are measuring fevers higher than expected for this time of year. (Kinsa usually tracks fevers to monitor the flu season.) Perhaps it’s a fluke; flu season is over, so even a small increase over “normal” might have a big impact.
But it sure seems a little early to be hanging the “Mission Accomplished” banner…
UPDATE:
Here’s some individual maps from past dates.
From April 17 to May 4, the map looked the same.
From March 27 to April 16, the map looked like this.
No point in going back further than that. They made a major change in the way they displayed their data on March 27 (going to cumulative instead of a daily snapshot).
