For the sake of public health, this needs to be spelt out with no ambiguity.
Until mid-January 2021, if not beyond, here will be no help from the White House in dealing with high corona virus infection rates in the US.
This is beyond a normal person's imagination, but there might even be continued deliberate obstruction from the White House of state or local governments trying to deal with the corona virus.
This is not pessimism, this is realism. Mary Trump clearly states the compelling truth(the link below is a video clip from her interview with Rachel Maddow).
Mary Trump on Donald Trump's response to corona virus
In print:
Mary Trump says Donald Trump is incapable of succeeding in dealing with the pandemic
Mary Trump also had some choice criticisms for her uncle’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
"“I want people to understand what a failure of leadership this is, and the reason he’s failing at it is because he’s incapable of succeeding at it,” Mary Trump said. “It would have required taking responsibility – which would, in his mind, have meant admitting a mistake, which, in his mind, would be admitting weakness, which in my family was essentially punished with the death penalty, symbolic or otherwise. What I think we need to grapple with now is why so many people are continuing to allow this.”
She says Donald Trump is incapable because he cannot admit mistakes, and that pathology comes from his basic upbringing.
From a June 2016 article on Donald Trump's childhood:
Little Donny was a lot like candidate Donald Trump
In elementary school, Donny impressed classmates with his athleticism, shenanigans and refusal to acknowledge mistakes, even one so trivial as misidentifying a popular professional wrestler. No matter his pals’ ridicule, one recalled, he doubled down, insisting wrestler Antonino Rocca’s name was “Rocky Antonino.”
...
"When Trump misidentified Rocca, the pro wrestler, Kass recalled, “We would laugh at him and tell him he was wrong, and he’d say he was right. The next time, he would make the same mistake, and it would be the same thing all over again.” "
Trump was in elementary school about 60 years ago. His behavior has been consistent since then. He isn't going to change in the next six months.
It may not be realistic to expect him to avoid “the death sentence” (as Mary Trump calls it) in his head and become capable of dealing with the pandemic in the next six months.
It would be silly to cite incidents from Trump’s childhood in normal circumstances. But the world has been observing for the last few years, Trump’s refusal to admit mistakes on anything, the most trivial things to the most consequential ones. Everyone without a death wish now needs to believe their own lying eyes. There are 100,000s of lives at stake.
To have a realistic path out of the pandemic, any public health plan needs to work around Donald Trump and the White House's refusal to admit mistakes, refusal to change course, refusal to be constructive partners, refusal to end deliberate obfuscation of facts and active misinformation, refusal to end their obstructions of necessary public health measures, refusal to refrain from inciting culture wars over even simple things like cloth masks.
All this is the result of Donald Trump being “incapable of succeeding” as Mary Trump says.
Save lives, tell the truth: Donald Trump and his White House are incapable of dealing with the pandemic.
