“That’s easy for you to say.”
As I fantasize about the debate between Biden and Trump, I keep thinking that this phrase should accompany every Joe Biden debate response to Donald Trump on the subject of the economy.
More of Biden’s response from my fantasy debate...
Sure. It looks like you’ve done pretty well for yourself over the past few years as most of America suffered under your lack of leadership. In fact, you’ve profited nearly $23 million just off of the campaign money spent at your properties.
Most Americans are not experiencing the same economy that you and your cronies are experiencing.
Records show that you turned a pretty profit by forcing the United States Air Force to stay at Trump Turnberry and refuel at above market rates at the struggling airport that keeps that property of yours viable.
And why did you insist that Mike Pence spend our hard earned taxpayer money at your Doonbeg Resort in Ireland when it meant he had to drive hours out of his way?
You even tried to have the G7 summit at Trump Doral, which would taken place in the summer in the midst of a “bunch of industrial parks on the west side of Miami.”
And to top it all off, you had the audacity to get the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom to request that the British Open be held at your Scottish golf course.
The next time you and Larry Kudlow talk about bootstraps, just remember that most of us don’t have the ability to bootstrap Saudi princes into saving our failing business.
Most of us don’t have their dad’s fortune to squander into bankruptcy after bankruptcy, as we pay more to our tax lawyers than we do to the US Treasury.
And most of us don’t have the fragile moral character that’s required to ingratiate ourselves and hock our products in the White House Rose Garden, like your buddy the Pillow Guy, or to have the First Daughter pose with our canned food products.
The economy is doing just fine for those who do favors for you, or whose wall street portfolios benefit from the Federal Reserve pumping money into corporate coffers for stock buybacks.
But none of that stuff means squat to Main Street America and to the essential workers who have seen stagnant wages for a generation as their jobs keep getting shipped overseas under your watch, despite your lying rhetoric.
I’m sure I’m leaving out many of the emolument violations that have benefited Trump personally, but there’s only so much time for each response.
