We’ve been looking forward to watching Kamala Harris shine during the coming hearings. It seemed like the Trumpers were giving us free campaign commercials. There has been some chatter in repub circles that they might dispense with hearings and just have a vote. Most of us probably thought that would just too flagrant for them to pull, and they would go through with full hearings. They need to have hearings in order to have the trappings of legitimacy. But it appears that Trump may go full Soviet on this to avoid to give the Democrats a chance to speak truth to power on live TV. Yes, I know that technically, it is not his decision. But very Putin like, he gives his orders to his lackey McConnell and the turtle will hear and obey.
Trump just retweeted this below from The Hill twitter feed. It is a pic of Russian Limbaugh persuading repub Senators to not have a hearing.
I doubt Trump would have retweeted this had he not approved of the sentiment. Witness the arc the repubs have rode over the last four plus years. There is no way the repubs were going to let Obama appoint anyone to the court in 2016. They could have just gone through the motions of having a hearing, and then voting him down 51 to 49. But if he had done well in the hearings, it would have been difficult for the so called moderates to justify their votes, so let’s not have a hearing, because it’s an election year and McConnell invented his rule. Here we are in another election year. And now it’s OK to have hearings. But if the wing nut that is picked makes an ass of herself in the hearings, then, it will be difficult for the so called moderates to justify their votes for her. But most of all, the repubs will not let their woman be outshined by our woman, Kamala Harris
This is looking so Soviet. So Russian. Trump shakes his little finger, and his minions fall in line. Surely, they know this is not going to play well. Perhaps they decided that a rubber stamp vote will do less harm to the cause than letting Kamala kick repub ass.
Just think about it. The US Senate used to be referred to by some observers as the world’s greatest deliberative body. Now it is the world’s biggest rubber stamp.
