Currently, there are four active resolutions of impeachment. Here they are, with their articles in very-briefly-summarized form. (Keep in mind, one way to think of the scope of one article of impeachment [even if there are other articles] is that an article in itself is sufficient to justify removal from office.)
H.Res.24 by Rep. David Cicilline
- Jan. 6th, 2021 incitement of insurrection
H.Res.26 by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee
- Georgia election result overturn demands and extortion attempt
- National election interference, sabotage, and attempted coup
- Welcomed Russia to interfere with 2016
- Denial of Russian interference; obstruction of oversight
- Asked foreign governments to interfere with 2020
- Rejected any valid possibility of losing 2020
- Sabotaged the USPS
- Sued to overturn 2020, falsely and in bad faith
- Lied that 2020 was stolen; called for Congress to falsely make him the winner
- Failed to defend the government on Jan. 6, 2021
H.Res.32 by Rep. Ilhan Omar
- Georgia election result overturn demands and extortion attempt
- Incitement of violence, and orchestration of a coup attempt
H.Res.34 by Rep. Maxine Waters
- Incitement of and conspiracy to commit insurrection
- Corrupting elections: Ukraine solicitation and extortion for 2020, 2020 state of Georgia solicitation and extortion, 2016 illegal payments to Stormy Daniels etc. for silence
- Unauthorized foreign and domestic emoluments, conflicts of interest, use of official power for personal gain
- Obstruction of justice regarding the FBI Russia investigation: fired Mueller, lied about it, obstructed oversight
Guess which one House leadership is bringing to the floor today? That’s right, the most limited one: H.Res.24, Representative Cicilline's bill, which really only covers Trump's incitement of the Jan. 6th insurrection.
Trump and his cronies have committed so many other serious offenses against the country, like when he and others tried to berate and extort the Georgia Secretary of State into overturning his state's election result by fiat, or like when they blatantly sabotaged the US Postal Service. The narrowness of the previous impeachment, which was solely about the Ukraine scandal, was seriously harmful to the country in that it meant that Congress let slide other major impeachable offenses, things that did and are doing major damage now and int the future. Refusing to impeach on the full set of abuses normalized them, which was the kind of thing that experts on authoritarian dictatorships warned against.
Please call your representative today and demand that s/he also introduce other articles, by privileged resolution if necessary. In case the Senate were to convict only on the insurrection article and not on the others, at least the House Democrats would've made it clear that the other offenses are unacceptably bad for the country.
