The future is NOT negotiable.
President Biden (and most of the not-insane American people) want and need the relief package he has proposed, and so does the future of American democracy, and, not at all incidentally, the planet. The American people, and the rest of the civilized world desperately need something to believe in, a government that actually functions for the benefit of…the people. A government that can deliver when the chips are down.
We, those people, are not at all likely to settle for more years of Congressional Kabuki clownshow, caused, specifically, by Republican’t obstruction. We have lived through that shitshow already and it is, and was, a flop.
No more excuses are acceptable; we all know this. The mid-tern election campaign of 2022 has already begun (like it or not) and voters will either enthusiastically return to the polls in 2022 to support our efforts or …meh: Democrats will have failed to come through. “Senate Dems flummoxed by Republican intransigence and obstruction” is not an acceptable excuse anymore.. Period.
So, when (not if) Republicans attempt to stop the passage of Biden’s relief package, immediately following the first visible sign of this obstruction, Senate Dems must play their “nuclear option” card and vote to change Senate rules to deny Republican’ts their obstructionist tool. Democrats will be the responsible party here; it will be on them to prove they actually mean it, to show they will not longer allow the throttling of democracy.
The future is not negotiable; especially if it means negotiating with terrorists.
