If the outcome tonight is favorable for Warnock and Ossoff, one story that will have to be told is the largely African-American rural counties that make up part of Democrat Sanford Bishop’s 2nd district. To wit: Randolph County, in the southwestern corner of the state. It’s a small county, and just under 3100 people turned out in November. David Perdue got 46.2% in the county.
Tonight? Over 2900 people voted, which is an astounding retention rate. And Senator Perdue got only 43.6%. Ossoff and Warnock running as a team may have buoyed both candidates in these heavily African-American counties. And if Jon Ossoff makes it across the line tonight, that may well be the reason why.
