The New York Times (Friday Oct. 15) has a story on West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, and his hold on President Biden’s climate plan.
Manchin is unalterably opposed to any sort of clean energy bill, which apparently cannot move forward without his support.
He particularly objects to clean electricity, doubtless because he is wedded to West Virginia’s coal extraction industry; he is not alone in West Virginia: the state’s other U.S. senator — Republican Kelly Moore Capito—is likewise tied to the fossil fuel industry, and is also on board with all attempts to block implementation of clean energy.
I am unaware of any leverage available to the President to move forward. If anyone here at dKos has helpful suggestions for un-plugging the path, I am obviously burning to hear it.
In any case email Joe Manchin and make your displeasure known. I admit it is unlikely he will heed any messaging from our quarter, but we should still work to give him an earful.
