Just a quick reminder for everyone, its Medicare enrollment season, you have until December 7 to enroll for next year. Unfortunately the community of charlatans and fraudsters who operate call centers on the sub-continent also know this. If you receive a call from some one claiming to be from Medicare and asking about your enrollment status do not give them any personal information they are a fraud.
The information they collect will be used to steal your identity.
If someone suspicious calls you and asks for your Medicare number or other personal information, immediately hang up and call 1-800-MEDICARE to report suspected fraud.
You can also contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-382-4357 or visit ftc.gov/complaint. You may also contact your local police department or consumer protection agency.
Note anyone who calls and asks for personal information is suspicious. though it is slightly comical that the call is always called Mike or Tony but speaks with a strong south Asian accent, then there is the delay on their AutoDialed system followed by a click and background noise as you are transferred.
It really should be possible for the US government to address this with the telecom carriers who allow spoofed numbers and caller ID along with the international governments that allow these activities to continue.
