Well, it looks like I won my election. I will be the next unpaid member of the school board in Delta County, Colorado. I started my campaign in the middle, trying to skirt CRT, LGBTQ issues and mask mandates (we have none), but had to come clean and support all these issues by the end. And I still won.
Yes, I had a little help from a Q-anoner, a GOP lady and some very handsome mutton chops who split the rabid anti-everything vote, but a win is a win. I'm sure I'll do well on the board and get along with everyone.
It's also very good for our fledgling group, the Delta Dems, to have a win. Usually, if we can even put someone on the ballot, we're stoked. Every race is an uphill one. Think Pike's Peak Marathon where you start of all excited and end up walking the last 22 miles. We end up with a quarter of the vote, no matter what campaign we run. I received 32.2%, actually outperforming this one time.
What this means is that a moderate Dem is sitting in one of the rooms for four years, providing some oversight for us. This is a very good thing. We may be able to get some momentum going and see more progress this way.
