Just a quick heads up. I just saw that Joe Manchin has released a statement saying that he will vote against President Biden’s nominee to head the Office of Management and Budget (“OMB”), because she issued mean tweets against Mitch McConnell and other Republican Senators. He says that’s not the right attitude for an administration seeking unity. Story.
Given that there are only 50 Democratic Senators, this appears to doom her nomination, unless Biden can get some Republican to vote for her.
I’ve supported Manchin here in the past, on the grounds that he’s a lot better than any Republican Senator we could get from West Virginia. That’s probably still true, but this really pisses me off. As if being polite to McConnell will have any benefit whatsoever. You can’t imagine a Republican Senator doing this to a nominee by a Republican President — being offensive is a feature, not a bug, for those bastards fellows.
