According to Josephine Harvey at HuffPost, WABC in New York seems to have given Rudy Giuliani a platform to air his views free of charge, but preceded it with a disclaimer — the standard disclaimer used to distance a medium from the opinions of its speakers:
“The views, assumptions and opinions expressed by” former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney and “his guests and callers on his program are strictly their own, and do not necessarily represent the opinions, beliefs or policies of WABC Radio” and its owners, other hosts and advertisers, New York’s 77 Talk Radio WABC said in a message before Giuliani’s daily afternoon show.
Which seems to have caused Rudy’s hair to run again. Not only was he incensed that they hadn’t informed him of the disclaimer ahead of time, but he also somehow considered it a violation of his First Amendment Rights:
“I would have thought they would have told me about that before just doing what they just did. Rather insulting. And gives you a sense of how far this free speech thing has gone. And how they frighten everybody. I mean, we’re in America, we’re not in East Germany.
Which is hilarious in two aspects. First, Giuliani seems to think the First Amendment, in addition to giving him the right to air his opinions, also forces the medium carrying those opinions to completely agree with and support them, and second, Rudy, East Germany doesn’t exist any more and hasn’t since 1990. Welcome to the 21st Century.
