At a time when much of the U.S. is starting to see dramatic drops in Covid-19 infections, we have to be very careful that new variants, particularly whatever it is that’s hitting India right now, do not cause a resurgence here.
The huge problem in India is that younger people have not taken precautions and are getting infected at massive rates. This obviously is hugely concerning since Covid-19 has traditionally has affected older populations, but in India 65% of the people being admitted to hospitals with severe cases of Covid-19 are under 40 years old.

The implication of this is that it’s time to get your shot. The side effects have not been that severe (though certainly there have been a few), but for younger people who are waiting to see what the effects might be, you now have a lull in US cases and an open window of time that allows you to get vaccinated and be protected in case whatever the horrific variant that is killing India finds its way here—which predictably it will.
