Ga. Congressman Andrew Clyde expressed his opinion about some of Trump’s Maga Rioters who were caught on security cameras while walking through Statutory Hall in the Capital Rotunda.
Clyde said that those particular rioters caught on video were “peaceful” and indistinguishable from normal “tourists.” While the media has made a point of contrasting his words with the violent actions of the rioters who were assaulting police outside the capital, media commentators have missed the truly important point.
For those of us watching the television coverage in real time, it was clear that Clyde’s ” tourists” were the first Trumpers to enter the capital. The brief footage shows several dozen Trumpers including some couples, adorned wiih MAGA hats and carrying Trump signs seemingly being escorted by a handful of Capital police. It’s not clear what the exact situation was, but we can assume that they were being escorted to an exit. The footage was only shown several times before the media switched the coverage to the more “sexy” violence outside the Capital.
The Trumpers who were inside the capital rotunda were the first ones to breach security and seemingly did so without violence. Their presence preceded the violent assault and eventual breech of the rioters outside.
What is important is that these particular Trumpers did not storm the Capital but were let in.
Who let the rioters in is the question. Was it rogue capital police, Congressional staffers, other employees or actual Congress persons themselves. It seems likely that this event was planned and coordinated by someone in authority.
It’s interesting that Rep. Clyde would bring up that event and make the comments that he did. It’s almost as if he was claiming ownership.
A thorough examination of other security camera footage should reveal which door or entrance the rioters used to enter the Capital and who was responsible for letting them in.
