When President Obama was in office, I was working on a government clean energy program that involved a lot of PR work. One day we had a PR issue brewing — Republicans whining about wasting taxpayers’ $$, of course — and I had to tune into Milwaukee right wing talk radio to hear if they were saying anything about our project. The radio guy I tuned in to listen to — Belling or Savage, I think — was not talking about our project, I’m happy to say. But he was bitching and moaning about how Obama was tanking the economy and we were all going to go broke.
After a few minutes of ranting he broke for a commercial. The commercial was narrated by the very same radio guy doing the show, and his first words were: “Folks, there’s never been a better time grow your wealth.” I almost got whiplash. What the?? Wasn’t this the same guy who was just telling me the economy is in ruins??
Yes it was, the very same guy, and when the “wealth management” commercial ended he didn’t skip a beat. He switched right back to telling his listeners that Obama was wrecking the economy and we’re all going to go bankrupt.
And I realized at that moment that not one single one of his listeners noticed the switch…
