Way back in 1977, when even I was a lad, Ed Koch and Mario “Andrew’s Dad” Cuomo were engaged in a runoff for the NYC Democratic mayoral nomination.
Andrew “Mario’s Son” Cuomo — who was then known as Andy — orchestrated a lovely effort to convince Queens voters (a.k.a. Archie Bunker’s peeps) that Koch was gay. Which was not the kind of thing that Archie Bunker’s peeps would celebrate.
“Vote for Cuomo! Not the Homo”
And here we are.
This is who Andrew is.
Yet somehow Andrew was elected governor. Non-optimal.
I’m glad that we now live in a time where Andrews being Andrews are no longer so celebrated, at least in the Democratic Party, at least when it comes to sexual harassment. It’s time for elected officials who lift others up, and we’re starting to get some more. Politicians who want to help others, not use them.
“But is helping others something that will lose votes”, you ask?
Here’s a fun fact: if people get help, they vote for the people who help them. Just ask the guy sitting at the desk, signing Social Security into law:
The year after this picture was taken, that guy won the presidency with 66% of the popular vote, Republicans held only 17 of 96 Senate seats, and 102 of 434 House seats.
Please: let’s vote for good people, people who want to help. Hopefully ones with a good right hook.
No more Andrew Cuomos.
Thank you.
