Never forget that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and the entire Fox News Entertainment Complex took our national shock, trauma, and grief on 9/11 and weaponized it against their domestic political opponents.
They took something that affected all Americans, and turned it into a cudgel to silence us, to invalidate our trauma, to conflate us with “the terrorists” because we didn’t support their politics.
When we didn’t support the invasion of Iraq, a country that had NOTHING to do with the attacks, we were vilified for being unamerican, accused of hating America and loving the terrorists. When we said launching a forever war would be giving Osama Bin Laden exactly what he wanted, we were vilified, even though we were right.
All of this is swept under the rug every year when we have these days of remembrance, and it’s always upsetting. We who didn’t vote for Bush, who didn’t support Bush, who didn’t support his invasion of a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 were treated like our grief, trauma, and pain were not valid.
Never forget that it was the Republican party and their allies who attacked their fellow Americans, after Saudi Arabian terrorists attacked our entire country.
We were and are allowed to experience grief and loss, and I will never forget how we were treated in the aftermath of the attack.
