Deep dive into Campaign Financing!
Political Action Shenanigins : Alaska style (maybe Michigan too???)
Hereʼs my summary:
Alaska has a new law that requires disclosure of donor identification for independent expenditure groups.
1) A big donation made just before disclosure required under that new state law. This was announced as money from Republican Governors Association to “A Stronger Alaska”.
2) Now no record of such transfer, instead just a bank account “Republican Governors Association, A Stronger Alaska.”
3) Staff is holding positions in both RGA and the local shell, $ are coming from RGA.
4) The filings with the IRS (federal) show no money to the local group “A Stronger Alaska”, while the filings with the Alaska Public Offices Commission show $3 million to the local group.
5) $ are being spent for ads to support Mike Dunleavy, current Republican governor
…and the national group is not registered for political action in the state.
