From DDay, writing in the American Prospect:
By retaining their Senate majority, Democrats no longer feel the urgency to use the lame-duck session to confirm executive branch appointments, pushing off decisions on who will fill key positions until at least next year. That means that the Biden administration will likely go through 2023—as they have through 2021 and 2022—with Louis DeJoy as postmaster general, given the current makeup of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Board of Governors, the body that decides whether to fire the PMG and choose a successor. Currently, the board supports DeJoy, and if the members whose terms expire in December are allowed to stay on the board an extra year, that support will continue.
The terms of Democrat Lee Moak and Republican William Zollars both expire on December 8th of this year. But both can receive a “holdover year,” where they can fulfill the duties of a postal governor before leaving the board. With no nominees currently in place to replace Moak and Zollars, that scenario is likely, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Now, c’mon. Democrats made an enormous stink about DeJoy. From Yahoo News, back in the day:
WASHINGTON — Democrats used a Monday hearing on Capitol Hill to savage U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, whom they accused of intentionally sabotaging the nation’s postal system in order to help President Trump’s reelection prospects.
“Either through gross incompetence you have ended the 240-year history of delivering the mail reliably on time, or the second conclusion we can gather is, you’re doing this on purpose,” said Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass.
And Frank Figliuzzi on MSNBC:
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is reportedly under FBI investigation over possible campaign finance law violations while at his former business. It's not a major leap of logic to assume the "campaign fundraising activity" they're referring to is an alleged straw-donor scheme that funneled questionable cash towards the Republican Party.
But ever since Dems took control of the Senate and presidency, they have done nothing to get rid of DeJoy. We will lose credibility if we make big political issues out of things and then, when their utility in mobilizing voters is done, drop them.
Please: demand of Joe Biden that Moak and Zollars be replaced with Postal Board members who will fire DeJoy.
