Professor Timothy Snyder, who has been warning us all about the dangers of Putin’s Russia and its domestic version, has provided a useful list of organizations that help Ukrainians. After finding this on the invaluable Emptywheel Twitter feed, I notice that cloris creators mentioned this in a diary today, but wanted to re-up it. Here’s the relevant excerpt:
NGO that arranges life-saving equipment for Ukrainian soldiers: https://savelife.in.ua/en/donate
Hospitallers working at the frontline: https://www.facebook.com/hospitallers/posts/2953630548255167
Ukrainian Women’s Veteran Movement: https://www.uwvm.org.ua/?page_id=3437&lang=en
NGO that assists internal refugees: https://unitedhelpukraine.org/
NGO that assistants internal refugees, especially from Crimea: https://www.peaceinsight.org/en/organisations/crimea-sos/?location=ukraine&theme
NGO that aids traumatised children: https://voices.org.ua/en/
Foundation that assists healthcare and education in eastern Ukraine: https://razomforukraine.org/projects/zhadan/
Please spread this far and wide, and give if you can.
This is, as Snyder has said, a 1939 (Czechoslovakia) moment, when a dangerous dictator has started an aggressive war in the service of amassing an empire. It has all the elements of 1939—the Big Lie, the blitzkrieg, the threats of the murder of those who represent the legal order of things...and a world that does not intervene.
Though thankfully we have a president who is more Churchill than Chamberlain, more Roosevelt than Willkie. And hopefully, we Americans will not turn a blind eye as so many Americans did in 1939, imagining that it was “over there.”

I gave this link in another diary, but here it is again. Many Ukrainians are Orthodox Catholic, so Catholic Relief Services is taking donations for assistance.
Canadian Kitty mentions one of the world’s oldest and most effective organizations, UNHCR:
I just gave $50 through UNHCR: Ukraine. They are the UN’s refugee organization and will directly help those forced to flee Ukraine. They are a great organization.
Random Botanist suggests:
Since Catholic Relief Services and the Salvation Army have been mentioned, I will assume it is acceptable to recommend another very reputable charity, the JDC: https://donate.jdc.org/give/393030/.
