THE FOUNDATIONAL QUESTION
Why has the Attorney General not filed criminal charges against the former guy?
There are many potential charges of obstruction of justice detailed in the Mueller report. There is videotape evidence of the orange traitor fuckpudding confessing to a crime on national television:
There are a number of possible answers to my foundational question, including that the USAG has looked at the evidence and determined that he could not prove a crime (even though the case would be brought in the District of Columbia where over 90% of the voters voted for President Biden).
Or, it is possible that the USAG has looked at the evidence and is building a case to charge the treasonous bastard.
Or, it could be that Trump delivered a “pocket pardon” for himself to the Department of Justice. I would expect nothing less corrupt from him. In fact, he has claimed the ability to pardon himself in a tweet, which was reported on by numerous media sources, including the BBC:
Is that what happened? I don’t know. But I’ve set out to find out.
PAST EXPERIENCE
In the past, I’ve had success obtaining documents from the FBI using the Freedom of Information Act. This is a bit different in that the person accused of the crime is alive (at least biologically). So, I included in my request the preemptive argument that: (1) The documents don’t relate to “law enforcement information about a living person”; rather, they relate to law non-enforcement information, and, alternatively, (2) The public interest in the documents far outweigh the privacy interest of one individual.
Additionally, as part of a group effort for Support the Dream Defenders, I served FOIA requests on a number of Republican governors regarding their failure to expand Medicaid. I had to file suit against two of them (Kansas and North Carolina), and both settled and provided the documents before our first hearings.
CAN A PRESIDENT PARDON HIMSELF?
I personally believe that a President does not have the right to pardon himself. My arguments are based upon precedent, common law, an interpretation of the Constitution and can be found in my diary here: Even the King, at the Cost of His Own Head, Did Not Pardon Himself.
A RATFUCKER’S DREAM
However, if I were a sleazy GQP attorney with acid in my heart, rather than a wonderfully free-spirited and good-looking progressive ex-lawyer, I would’ve advised Trump to pardon himself, then have a trusted person hand-courier the pardon to then-Attorney General Barr to keep and then provide to all of his subsequent replacements.
Here’s why: If a skittish Attorney General doesn’t want to fight the pardon in court, he will never be able to say anything about it. For all intents and purposes, it would seem as if TFG had committed no crimes. That’s because the DOJ is required to remain silent about any information that is not part of an ongoing criminal complaint or indictment. Cf. Hillary Clinton.
So, I want to know: Did Trump pardon himself.
