So, this is just a short diary for the fun of it. :-) I found this music video by the metal band Disturbed of a cover they did of Genesis’ “Land of Confusion” by chance when surfing the Yootoobz and was struck by its slightly creepy propheticness (is that even a word? LOL):
I say “prophetic” because they did this video back in 2009, and the imagery just hits me all up in here in 2022, even down to the mentions of Russian flags (along with many others), oligarchs (fighting the super rich, anyways, very specifically), and the sideways dollar-sign that is eerily reminiscent of the Russian’s “Z’ on the tanks (to represent the rich)—even though it would be technically backwards, if you really think about it (yeah, I know, blame my dyslexic brain for that one). The characters of the plucky, downtrodden who rise up and show their bravery remind me of Ukraine, too, but that could just coincidence, as well. What do you all think?
After their rendition of “Sound of Silence”, I thought these guys were damned good, but now I think they’re even better. The lead singer originally trained to be a cantor for the synagogue, and he really shows his chops. Wouldn’t have expected him to go into metal. ;-) Underrated, these guys.
Anyway, the video seemed eerily-relevant to current events and I thought I’d give it some views, that, and it’s a damned good cover of a damned good Genesis song. Enjoy!
Just for fun, post any song videos you think shows a “prophetic” side, like “War Without Frontiers” or some such (I’ve loved that one for decades...) or you think shows a strong relevance to today.
Slava Ukraini!
