Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
And in donald trump, conservatives have found their Lode Star.
Liz Cheney is one of the most conservative members of Congress. If voting for “conservative” policy was important to Republicans she would have easily won her primary. Instead she is on track to lose by 40 points.
Why? Because she would not bend her knee to donald trump.
When one of trump’s sycophants gets on TV and says, “if they can do this to *resident trump, they can do it to you”, understand who the sycophant is talking to.
It sure as hell ain’t the pregnant ten year-old girl who the Republican Party wants to force to carry her rapist's baby.
It sure as hell ain’t the students and teachers who will be murdered by a madman because Republicans believe he has a right to possess a weapon of war.
It sure as hell ain’t the same-sex couple living down the street, because fresh off their abortion “win”, Republicans have begun talking about overturning the Supreme Court decision that permits same-sex marriage.
It sure as hell ain’t the Breonna Taylors in this country, who was killed while sleeping in her bed by the police.
The sycophant is speaking to heterosexual, white, “christians”. They are the in-group that the law must protect, but not bind. donald trump, more than any other Republican politician, most perfectly represents that core conservative truth.
If you aren’t a heterosexual, white, “christian”, understand that eventually today’s Republican Party will come for you.
If you understand this, you understand the hold trump has on the Republican Party. It’s not about conservative policies. It’s all about the fact that trump most closely adheres to the conservatives' most base philosophy.
I’ll write it again.
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
