So it looks like things are closing in on The Biggest Loser (I prefer this to “tfg” or “former president,” since he would hate it more). I and practically everyone on here and maybe half the country are delighted. We look forward to (1) charges, (2) an indictment and (3) perp walk (at least symbolically speaking). We look forward to (4) a trial — or, even better, trials — and … this is where it gets tricky. Presumably, any trial would be by jury and, unless I’m mistaken, it would require a (5) unanimous decision of guilty to convict. So all it takes in one person to vote “not guilty” and the TBL would skate. Given the fact that nearly half the country voted for him in 2020, it seems the chances of getting one juror to vote “not guilty” would be pretty good. In fact, just on the odds, it seems better than good.
Now we can take delight in steps 1-4 — or even multiple cases of 1-4 — but we should all keep in mind that, no, we may not see TGL behind bars and, in fact, might be seeing him brag about how he is innocent and whining about the witch hunt(s), which might benefit him politically. Even short of conviction, all the legal mess might keep him from the presidency for political reasons, which would be a good thing but not completely satisfying. In short, we need to be prepared for a big let down.
