If not for the courage of Ukraine, Russia's rape of that country would be the opening salvo of WWIII, just as Hitler's invasion of Poland in 1939 was only the beginning of WWII. Every Russian tank, APC, missile launcher, jet or helicopter Ukraine destroys is one that Russia can't use to threaten or invade another of its neighbors. Ukraine is doing the entire free world a service--and they are the ones doing the dying. We need to help them more, all the more because this war is an opportunity we can't afford to squander, to degrade Russia's military capability.
I think we need to get precision weapons--cruise missiles?--to Ukraine, with which Ukraine can reach deep into Russia and destroy its military depots: weapons, equipment, munitions, fuel, airfields, and most importantly, every railroad bridge on every line approaching Ukraine. Russia moves its military by rail. Destroying its railroad bridges would cripple it. If Ukraine could sever the Kerch Bridge at both ends while there was a military convoy stuck in the middle, they could destroy those weapons and munitions at leisure. And with an economy the size of Portugal's and no trade with the Western World for the foreseeable future, Russia is not going to rebuild its military any time soon.
Spare military barracks? But let the Russian soldiers stationed there know that Ukraine has their GPS coordinates, and could just as easily have blown them to hell, and that they live by Ukraine’s mercy? And despite Russia's murder of Ukrainian civilians, take the high ground and be very careful not to injure Russian civilians. Ukraine will turn more Russians to its side, the world will love them for it, and it’s the right thing to do.
The more of Russia's military Ukraine destroys, the safer the world. With the right weapons they could do so without one Ukrainian soldier setting foot in Russia, without risking one more Ukrainian life. I think the free world needs to help Ukraine with that, and we need to get it done before Russia gives up and deprives us of the excuse.
Putin has nukes? Break into Russian TV, and display maps showing exactly where in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and a few other Russian cities, which neighborhoods, which intersections, our nukes are targeted, and ask the Russian people if Putin is worth watching their children die in a nuclear fireball. I’m betting they will say no.
