Hi! I’m Gabriel Gonzales, democratic nominee for FL State House District 119.
It was a long road, and many told us that it was impossible. But young leaders all across our state are proving that we are fed up with Ron Desantis’ garbage, and are actually doing something about it. It’s why I chose to run, but my neighborhoods are why we won our primary.
I'm a 22 year old, gay, first-generation American, the son of Cuban and Nicaraguan Immigrants who escaped Authoritarianism, war, and economic strife to come to America in search of the American Dream. I'm a product of the Miami-Dade County Public School System, graduating in the top 1% of my class from TERRA Environmental Research Institute's Engineering and Robotics Academy and just recently earned my BA in Political Science from Columbia University in the City of New York, where I graduated Pi Sigma Alpha.
I won my primary with less than $7,000 raised because I spend almost every single afternoon out on the streets talking to my communities. It’s how I’m going to win the general election too! The neighborhoods that make up my district are almost 40% voters with no party affiliation- families who feel like the political system has left them behind. Talking to those voter is going to not just flip this house seat blue, but also hopefully inspire other Gen-Z leaders to run in future election cycles.
My opponent is Desantis’ perfect seat-filler. Former president of College Republicans, staffer to Rick Scott, & Spencer Roach. He’s finally been given a seat to run in, and if we don’t stop him, will vote for a total abortion ban in 2023.
It’s a big district, and I can’t be everywhere, no matter how many hours I spend walking. We need to get the word out. After his primary, my Republican Opponent has $60,000 on hand- which may seem like a lot, but for a FL republican, that’s actually pretty low. We can make that $ talk to a lot more voters, and it’s my goal to try to hit $50,000 before mail in ballots drop in less than a month.
