Stung by criticism of its internal investigation of who leaked the Dobbs decision overruling Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court has retained former football star OJ Simpson to conduct an outside investigation. The criticism has centered on why the investigation conducted by the Marshal of the Supreme Court interviewed Justices, but did not require their sworn affidavits.
According to sources, the Court wanted someone with considerable experience in the justice system, as well as investigative skills. The Marshal said no one fit the bill better than Mr. Simpson: “He has been dealing with the Justice system for nearly thirty years, beginning in 1994, including experience both ‘inside and outside’ judicial institutions. He has been relentless in his pursuit even now of the still-at-large perpetrators of a matter others believe is a ‘cold case,’* the murder of his ex-wife and another that year,” citing a recent interview: OJ Simpson Won’t Stop Looking For The Real Killer.
Fortunately, despite continuing sleuthing the 1994 case, Mr. Simpson has time:
How many Americans, even today, wouldn’t like to live my life?” OJ Simpson asked via Bro Bible. “I don’t work. I play golf four or five days a week. I go out to dinner a couple of nights with friends. People want to buy me drinks. I’m always taking pictures with people. Ladies hug me.
Justice Samuel Alito, author of Dobbs, said, “The Court’s legitimacy rests on its credibility. Even the appearance of impropriety can be damaging to the Court’s role as one of the three co-equal branches,” echoing remarks by Chief Justice Roberts last September, who said, “If the court doesn't retain its legitimate function of interpreting the constitution, I'm not sure who would take up that mantle.”
Reached on the golf course, Mr. Simpson said his first step will be to take the step the Marshal did not: requiring sworn affidavits, saying:
After their confirmation hearings, those guys should not fear any consequences for anything they say under oath.
Spouses of Justices will not be asked to testify, however.
*After Mr. Simpson’s acquittal, no one else has been charged with the crime.
