It was cold this year. But my full candy bowl downstairs by the door is colder. Six children came to my door for Halloween this year. I waited by the door the full two hours, even though nobody ever came at the end of the night. Halloween has never been like this. Empty streets. No laughter. People who build small bonfires in their driveways watched the flames listlessly. There were no children anywhere. Yesterday a college student from another country asked me why Halloween was so bad. I explained to her we do not have an international children’s day (different from most countries). Halloween is our international children’s days. Nothing could ever stop it. But I am going down to turn off the light.
I have to ask myself is this the Maine shooter? The Colorado 20 year old who shot himself in the bathroom at an amusement park nobody could escape. I wonder, My God, what have we done? What have we done? What have we done?
