Eli Crane, one of the eight representatives who threw U.S. House Republicans into chaos with a vote to remove the Speaker, has perhaps the most pathetic record of legislative accomplishments in Congress.
He co-sponsored a bill, along with 67 others, to declare an end to the Covid emergency. This bill actually passed and was signed into law. However, no one told Covid.
Then he introduced a Constitutional amendment to limit the terms of members of Congress. Few members wanted to limit themselves, so the bill stayed in committee.
His next attempt to amend the Constitution would limit voting to citizens. Duh! He is so far down a rabbit hole of conspiracy hogwash that he couldn’t realize this was already the law of the land.
Finally, looking for something that might justify his salary, he introduced a bill to prohibit the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms from regulating sawed-off rifles. In a country where teen-agers can buy assault rifles to mow down their classmates, the country obviously needs more options for sawed-off rifles.
And that’s it. Making $174,000 a year as a member of Congress, it’s not much of an accomplishment.
A wrestling coach once said that if you ever see your opponent cross his legs, it’s time to take him down. The Republicans are now in a very vulnerable position. It’s time to take them down.
We don’t have a candidate yet to oppose Crane, but we hope to have one soon. It’s a gerrymandered seat that won’t be easy to win. But in this environment, we can do more than take the easy seats.
